How to upgrade the firmware on a ProPay-supplied BBPOS card reader

The firmware on ProPay-supplied BBPOS card reader devices will rarely need to be updated.  ProPay will notify you when such an update is required.

When a firmware upgrade is required, the user will need to download the Chipper OTA app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once the app is downloaded, upgrading firmware is as simple as following the on-screen instructions in-app.

To upgrade firmware through the Wayroo Application:

If a ProPay-supplied BBPOS card reader requires a firmware upgrade, Wayroo will notify the user when they attempt to pay for an order using the card reader.

To upgrade the firmware on a card reader, open (or create) a Wayroo order.

1. For a current order, on the Order Details page, select Pay.  On the Edit Order screen, select Pay.  (For a new order, on the Order Detail page, select Pay.)

2. On the Pay screen, select Credit Card.

3. On the Order Summary screen, select Proceed.

At this point, Wayroo will attempt to connect to your paired BBPOS card reader. If the device needs a firmware upgrade, Wayroo will display a notice and provide a link to the Chipper OTA page to perform the upgrade.

4. Select View the App Store.

5. On the Chipper OTA page, select GET and download the app.

6. Select Install. If prompted, sign in with your Apple ID or Google Play account.

7. Open the BBPOS OTA application.

8. Select Get Started.

The BBPOS OTA application will list all available card reader devices powered on and within range.

9. Click on the Select next to the serial number of the appropriate device.

Once the device is selected, confirmation of a successful connection message will appear.  The software will check for upgrades.

If the device battery is low a message will appear “Device battery is below 50% charge”; the firmware will not upgrade until the device is charged.   Once the device is charged, return to Step 8.

If the device is charged, the application will prompt for firmware upgrade.

10. Select Yes to upgrade firmware.

Upgrade in progress.

A successful confirmation message will appear.

11. Select Done.
